All Night Long (L. Richie)
Finally, the moment you've been waiting for has arrived. It is now officially the case that this season (SS16) it is acceptable to wear your pajamas outside of the house. No more funny looks at the school gate or when you pop in to the supermarket sporting your flannelette nightshirt. That sense of relief you feel as you read this and think: finally, I can now proudly venture to the mall in my tie-top cotton leopard print bottoms.
Well, not quite. This summer, it is lingerie that is seducing its way from the bedroom to into the realm of evening wear.
Saucy negligee is this season’s fashion statement piece. An array of silk night gowns, slinky (I love that word) camisoles and pajama-style silk trousers have sauntered their way down the SS16 catwalks of Paris, Milan and New York.
I purchased this little black number (see pic) when we were in Paris in January. It’s perfect. Keep the cuffs short(ish) and a plunging neck line oozes sex appeal. You can tie the ribbon at the front or back; or simply leave the ribbon hang.
Another theme of the season is 'coming undone'. Denim shirts unbuttoned down low, a slight gape to give a glance of boob; a button-up dress nonchalantly left open at the top or bottom for a hint of what lies within. It all whispers seduction to me for the steamy summer months ahead.
This particular piece ticks all of the boxes. It's a good length, plenty of leg out but with those arms covered it also adds to sultry look. You don't have to be a stick to wear it either; and there's plenty of room for Spanx. If they are good enough for the sisters Kardashian, they are good enough for anyone.
I've added some platform sandal heels to elevate this look. You could add some studded boots to man-it-up a little or some pumps to soften. Whatever you choose, slippers are totally off limits (these are from Le Silla: https://www.lesilla.com/en/shop/prodotto/cut-out-sandal-with-butterfly-pattern-in-velour-black-suede-calfskin-75898/).
While I was styling my new mannequin with my black beauty I also remembered another piece that I purchased a while ago from the Ted Baker nightwear collection (see left). I have actually worn this little sexy dress out to dinner once or twice it is also perfect, comfortable, floaty yet ever so saucy. It got the thumbs up from Matt ;-)
Give it a go. Get with this season’s look and try making your nightwear your, well, nightwear... And anyway, what's the worst that can happen? You might end up with an additional piece of bed-time attire. Plus there is a reasonable chance you can get away with telling your man it's all for him in the bedroom, and you get a new dress. Win-win.
Let me know how you get on.
