Eat. Beach. Sleep. Repeat.
We've just returned home from a wonderful weekend away at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. And what a wonderful weekend it was. The weather here at the moment in the Emirates is hot. It is the height of summer, so there are not many better things to do than to check into a resort, enjoy the facilities and unwind by the pool. So, that's exactly what we did.
For Friday our original plan of an indulgent brunch was revised last minute - a girl has got to be able to change her mind, right? After last weekend in London, where we pushed the boat right out with social events, we thought better of it and opted instead for a session together in the amazing Talise gym complex, while Cole enjoyed the delights of the Sinbad Kid's Club. I love nothing more than working out with my man. For us it is a real treat to work out together. There is something nice about being able to share in a pass time with the one you love that is equally important to them too. This has to be one of the best gyms in the Emirates.
After our workout we moved onto the pool and beach side restaurant for some lunch as we contemplated what an amazing place Dubai is, looking out to the iconic Burj Al Arab and beautiful white sand beach in front of us.
From there we moved to the pool, to loiter at the pool bar with a drink, people watch to the dj's excellent chilled house sounds. It was a great way to while away the rest of the afternoon, keeping cool on the 45 degree heat.
Friday night was spent at La Parrilla. This first class Argentinian restaurant is located on the 25th floor of the hotel, meaning that you get some outstanding views to enjoy with the outstanding food. The atmosphere in this place is alive. Passionately live Argentinian music accompanies the steamy flamenco and latin tango dancing right in front of your eyes in the restaurant as you eat. Only in Dubai. My current dietary requirements call for fare of a very low fat, high protein nature. So an Argentinian steakhouse is excellent, allowing me to comply while the family was free to eat out and enjoy the exceptional food on offer. Matt commented that it was one of the best meals he's had in Dubai. Believe me that is a big call for a man who has lived here for 7 years and eaten almost everywhere from street food in Cairo to Michelin star in Tokyo. It's most defo worth a visit.
The balance of the weekend involved more gymming and a visit to the Wild Wadi waterpark, which is part of the hotel. Waterparks in the Dubai summer heat are a total hit for kids, so a day of slides, rides and waves resulted in one very pleased 8 year old. Matt on the other hand gets motion sick and the very thought of a ride/slide makes him feel unwell but he endured hours of it - what a step-dad!
This was our third staycation at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and we will surely be back for a fourth next year. There is something so stress free about having a break where you don't need to endure a plane journey, with all of the stress that brings. And so we left satisfied as we headed back to the capital, to unpack and look forward to our next adventure.
